HOF Studios 2024 Wrapped
Includes a newsletter exclusive development video and my top games of 2024!
Hope you made it through 2024. I certainly had a lot of things going on but did find time to work on the next game last year and thought i would share some of the pictures from my desktop that i think represent a slice of development on the follow up to Depth of Extinction. This video is unlisted on YT and I’m only sharing it here.
There’s also an “extended” version of the above video available that has a lot more stuff in it. Watch it here.
Next, I’ve got a list of my top games from 2024 included below since everyone else was doing it. First I’ll take you through my top “new” games:
Baldur's Gate 3 - i am counting this in 2024 because i got it in January and basically played it non stop for 3 months
Lamplighter's League - if you like tactics games and you haven’t tried this then you are missing out
Steamworld Heist 2 - also play the first one if you haven’t. the mix of turn based xcom, side scrolling and bullet bouncing physics is so great people begged for this sequel.
Balatro - gameplay is so great that doing it over and over is fun
Animal Well - a really well made metroidvania with quirky upgrades
Peglin - i thought it was too random at first but after like 5 hours i started to really understand how to play it and it became way more fun
Cobalt Core - also counting this one in 2024. The gameplay here is so tight and i love the spaceship elements in this deckbuilder
Other amazing games i played in 2024. this particular list is highly weighted toward GamePass on my XBOX series S
Fortnite - I really got into it with my nephews. It really is a great game (or games) especially for playing as a small 2-3 person team.
Tomb Raider remasters - are these actually underrated? i was expecting mediocrity but felt like gameplay was better in many ways than Uncharted
Resident Evil 3 - i mean, you should know what you are getting here
Deus Ex Mankind Divided - Never got around to playing this gem. I feel like sneaking is much more fun and intuitive in this game than in Human Revolution
SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech - way better than i was expecting based on the trailer i saw. I really should have trusted them.
Stardew Valley - I still keep finding reasons to start a new farm or play an old one. Got a Steam Deck and I had to try it, right?
Hopefully will have another update soon! Hope 2025 is good to you!
